The wall and the curve are the main themes of this project in Sambuca, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (FI). The wall—solid and partially enclosed—defines the boundary along the road and forms the podium, the very base upon which to build. The curve, a volume in elevation, relies on its elusive form and the chiaroscuro effect of the wooden sunshades to open new perspectives toward the hillside.
The building’s project, winner of the invited competition held by the Banca di Credito Cooperativo del Chianti Fiorentino, balances the weight of the base with the lightness of the upper structure; the opacity of stone with the transparency of shutters; between tectonic construction tradition and timber craft. This interplay of opposites enhances the building’s “nodal singularity” from multiple perspectives: contextual, typological, and functional.
