The entire project stems from an approach of profound respect for Pier Luigi Nervi’s work as a true modern monument that must be returned to the city. Respecting its history led to the conception of a “New Stadium” designed as a dual system—with a Brunelleschian echoes—between a historical treasure chest (the existing Nervi structure) and a new, innovative technological object in the shape of a bronzed leaf.
The design, which can be semantically summarized as “the stadium within the stadium,” meets the goal of preserving the testimonial value of Nervi’s work while enhancing the fan experience by bringing the stands as close as possible to the pitch. This principle was a founding architectural concept, significantly reducing the current distance between the seating and the field of play.
