The multifunctional Headquarters for the New Careggi Entrance plays a strategic role as both an urban hub and an architectural landmark for the Careggi district and the city of Florence. Located at the southern edge of the medical district, the project serves as the “gateway” to the entire hospital campus.
An imposing loggia, supported by slender steel pillars, gathers the various building blocks—overlapping them in whole or in part—to become the compositional and functional heart of the complex. The triple-height entrance hall is a transparent envelope that, both architecturally and symbolically, offers a glimpse of the functions within while allowing those inside to to sense their position in relation to the whole complex..
“Hospitality” was the guiding principle of the design, shaping the structure as both a “portal” and a “landing point” for what is lived and perceived as a true city of health: Careggi.
